Two Three, actually (so far — and paraphrasing):
1. Obama: ‘He [McCain] talked about how liberal I am, but maybe it just seems that way because I was so opposed to the policies of George W. Bush.’
2. Obama in response to McCain’s proposal for a spending freeze: ‘The problem with that is that it’s taking a hatchet when you need a scalpel.’
3. Obama: ‘It’s this president who you supported 90% of the time,’ who got us into this mess…’
-John McCain’s response: ‘Hibbity jibbity, Maverick, yibbity smittiy. Now I have a partner who is a Maverick too.’
And by the way, why would John McCain bring up Sarah Palin? He can’t think that helps.
Oh, and Barack Obama has called John McCain “Tom” and “Jim.”
UPDATE:
Obama to McCain ‘you said the Iraq war was going to be quick and easy, you said we were going to greeted as liberators, you said we knew where the weapons of mass destruction were. You were wrong.’
UPDATE TWO:
McCain just said that sitting down across the table from someone is the same as saying they’re right. So I guess that since McCain is looking across the podium at Barack Obama, that means Obama is right.
Obama points out that McCain doesn’t want to talk to anybody, including NATO ally Spain. Ole!
UPDATE THREE:
In talking about nuclear waste, Obama just missed a great opportunity to talk about Yucca Mountain, which is a huge issue in Nevada.
UPDATE FOUR:
McCain is back to referring to himself as the one with “experience” in response to a question about foreign and military policy. I thought everyone had decided that this is a change election. If McCain wants to be the experience candidate, that ought to be just fine with everyone in the change campaign since change is what about 80% of the people want.
UPDATE FIVE:
Two final points:
1. This election is about whether John McCain = George W. Bush. Barack Obama has been saying that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time throughout the campaign. He said it again in the debate tonight. That’s McCain’s biggest weakness. How does McCain show up without a canned zinger in response?
2. McCain’s job was to demonstrate that Obama is unprepared to be commander-in-chief and leader of the free world in a dangerous time. Is there any reasonable argument that he succeeded?
