New Obama Ad: Professional Petard Hoisting

During the 1992 campaign, George H. W. Bush attacked Bill Clinton’s healthcare plan by saying that it

would result in a state-run health system that would combine “the efficiency of the House post office with the compassion of the K.G.B.”

It didn’t happen that way, of course.  Bush’s argument was empty rhetoric, meant to make people fear a policy which would have resulted in more and better healthcare for them.  So instead of getting healthcare to millions of Americans who need it, John McCain and the Republicans got to deregulate the banking industry.  We see how well that worked out. 

Now McCain wants to do for healthcare what he did for banking.  And that’s not rhetoric, that’s what he wrote in this month’s issue of Contingencies Magazine. 

To celebrate McCain’s visionary leadership, Barack Obama today released an ad so completely awesome you may need to take some Xanax before watching.  You’ve been warned:
