Taxpayers’ Best Friend to Taxpayers: Fend For Yourselves, Suckers

Nutcase Congressman Ron Paul represents the entire city of Galveston, Texas.  As you may have read, Galveston is devastated.  Before Hurricane Ike even came ashore,

Galveston City Manager Steve LeBlanc warned that the worst was still to come.

“The island is flooding pretty severely right now,” he said. “The west end is being torn up, pretty severely.”

As large numbers of residents stayed behind and faced, according to the National Weather Service “certain death,” what was Paul doing?  Who knows? He’s been completely is MIA

While Congresspeople from all over the area — Democrat Nick Lampson and Republican Ted Poe for example – have all been at Houston’s command center and held press conferences to advise constituents, Paul was nowhere to be found.  Here’s Paul’s House website:

By contrast, here are the House websites neighboring Congressmen Ted Poe and Nick Lampson:

Since Ike devastated the area,

other members of the Houston area’s congressional delegation – including Democratic Reps. Gene Green and Nick Lampson , Republican Reps. Kevin Brady and John Culberson , and Republican Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn – have pledged to press for emergency financial aid and extended funding of debris removal. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., said an emergency assistance package is being assembled.

Paul did not respond to numerous requests for comment, but spokeswoman Rachel Mills said the lawmaker will support the debris removal request.

But Mills said she is not sure whether Paul will back emergency appropriations for coastal communities. “I haven’t had a chance to talk with him directly about that,” she said. “At this point I’m not sure. We’d have to take a look at the specifics of the package.”

What a shame that Galvestonians don’t get to send Paul back to delivering babies in what’s left of his district.
