Kay Bailey Hutchison: Resumé Padder

Quick: Who’s the highest ranking woman in Congress? If you said Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, you’re right. And you’re obviously using things like “facts” to arrive at that conclusion.  Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison apparently has a different method of calculation.

Hutchison, who will challenge incumbent Rick Perry for Texas’ Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2010, claims on her campaign website to be the “Highest Ranking Woman in Congress.”  Here’s a screenshot to keep handy when the campaign deep sixes the padded resumé  and blames it on a low-level staffer:

Many in Texas will recall that Lena Guerrero, a member of the Railroad Commission, was forced to resign when it became known that she had misstated her college degree status on her resumé.  That was the end of Guerrero’s political career.

Hutchison, by contrast, will almost certainly be elected governor in 2010.  Perry’s defeat will remove from office a Sarah Palin / Rod Blagojevich-style embarrassment and move the office into the hands of a capable right-wing fanatic, Bobby Jindal / Haley Barbour style.  Damn I’m proud of Texas.
