What better time to talk about conservatives’ martyr complex than Easter weekend? On this week’s show, we’ll explore how losing an election and having to live with the results makes Republicans (in Rush Limbaugh’s words) an “oppressed minority.” Also, not that it matters, but 89% of Republicans are white. Whites account for the vast majority of wealth and power in this country. But still. Oppression. We’ll talk about it between 3:00 and 4:00 CST today. From the birthers, who say that Obama isn’t qualified to be president because something about him makes them think he wasn’t born in this country, to the 52% of Republicans who think ACORN stole the election for him — there’s a large segment of the conservative movement which to this day can’t get its collective mind around the fact that the Democrats won and they lost. In large part, that’s what the current wave of conservative hysteria is about: They just can’t accept the fact that they lost. How odd for people who constantly claim to be defenders of the constitution, under which Barack Obama and the Democrats won office.
