Mazal Tov, Exxon Mobil!

The US economy shrank at a “0.3 percent pace in the third quarter, signaling the onset of a possible recession.” At the same time, Exxon Mobil set a profit record: $137.7 billion in the third quarter.
Why would we need to change anything when our economic priorities are so clearly straight?

Not to Worry: Sarah Palin to Run the Economy

Why shouldn’t a regular moose-hunting Joe Sixpack, Hockey Mom type run the world’s largest, most complex economy? What are you, some kind of elitist?

John McCain to Florida: As President, I Will Bomb Tel Aviv, Appoint Fidel Castro Secretary of State, and Cut Medicare

Relax, it’s just a joke.  What politician in his right mind would tell Floridians any of that nonsense? Except the cutting Medicare thing. That part’s real:

John McCain would pay for his health plan with major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid, a top aide said, in a move that independent analysts estimate could result in cuts [...]

Country Club Ankle-Biter Calls Obama a Liar

Does anyone other than the bartender who serves Shirley Temples to little Tucker Bounds at the 19th Hole believe anything he says anymore? Here we see him whining on MSNBC that Barack Obama is lying about John McCain’s healthcare plan:

Obama isn’t lying, of course. But it’s an interesting accusation from the wind-up spokestool who can’t [...]

Today’s Ads

Obama has two new ads out today.  The first is probably the darkest of the campaign so far, but very effective if only because it ties McCain so directly to Bush and the jobs lost this year:

I think this one is even better, emphasizing the tax increase that comes with McCain’s healthcare plan:

Obama also released [...]

Sarah Palin: Don’t You Want Someone as Gullible as You Are Running the Economy?

Reporting on the House’s passage of the Wall Street bailout today, CNN’s Frank Sesno relates the mood of the country:
the salient public emotion about the current situation is anger: “Anger at Wall Street, anger at Washington, anger at the Congress, anger at the White House.”
People certainly aren’t going to be angry at themselves, and, for [...]

New Obama Ad Highlights McCain’s Plan to Tax Health Benefits as Economy Sinks

Ready to pay more for less healthcare?

Of course, the ad assumes that those who are being taxed still have jobs:
The government is out with more bad economic news this morning: The job market began to deteriorate even before the financial crisis reached a more serious stage two weeks ago.
Employers cut 159,000 jobs in September, more [...]

John McCain’s Disastrous Spending Freeze Proposal

Last week, John McCain proposed a freeze on all federal spending (with some exceptions):

Most of the post-debate focus was on Barack Obama’s quick response, in which said that McCain wanted to use a hatchet where a scalpel was indicated.
My History Can Beat Up Your Politics picked up McCain’s freeze proposal and (at about minute 3:20) [...]

You Don’t Say: British Eating Weird Stuff

It’s apparently due in part to the credit crisis:

This, of course, is nothing new:

On a related note, and to the extent it applies to you, enjoy the brisket and tzimmes and shana tovah.

RNC Attacks McCain’s Bailout Position

In an ad released today, the RNC attacks Congress and Barack Obama for bailing out Wall Street.  This, despite the fact that their presidential candidate supports the plan:

The ad was released before the bailout failed, but while McCain’s surrogates were taking credit for its passage:

Contrast the RNC’s confused bile with Obama’s two minute pitch to [...]
